Theme: The desire to explore the inner space between unconnected cognitive, affective, and somatic aspects of being and find links between them. I like to observe the somatic, affective, and cognitive dimensions of my being in states of well-being and dysregulated states of heightened or diminished arousal. Defensive and reparative aspects of existence intertwine, giving rise to diverse states of discomfort and vitality. These states find expression in rhythmic and tactile acts of creation, in intimate interactions with materials and objects, and in playful, performative processes that navigate the boundaries of inner and outer spaces. Within the realm of creative practice, inner experience becomes expansive, and states of irritability, restlessness, fear, frustration, jealousy, and rage are afforded the time and opportunity to roam freely. The creative process reintegrates discomfort with the simultaneous presence of curiosity, interest, contentment, care, awe, empathy, and love. This mind map of my latest exhibition synthesizes creative approaches, contextual artists’ practices, and recent literature concerning the psyche and nervous system.
